Zeotherm® TPV

Zeotherm TPV thermoplastic elastomers excel where conventional TPEs and copolyesters fail. Zeotherm TPVs are high-performance thermoplastic elastomers, designed to withstand long-term exposure to 150°C heat in hot engine oil and lubricant greases.

Zeotherm is composed of dynamically vulcanized polyacrylate (ACM) elastomer in a polyamide (PA6) plastic matrix.


KEY ATTRIBUTES

Long-Term Heat Resistance to 150°C

Zeotherm TPVs provide long-term, continuous heat resistance to 150°C while maintaining their elastomeric properties.

Peak Heat Resistance to 175°C

Zeotherm retains in excess of 50% of its elongation at break when exposed short-term (168 hours) to 175°C.

High Heat Resistance vs. Copolyester

Zeotherm TPVs have higher heat resistance compared to copolyesters. The stable modulus over a wide temperature range makes Zeotherm ideal for dynamic applications, such as air ducts and axle boot applications.

Hot Oil Resistance

Zeotherm TPVs are dimensionally stable in hot oil with low swell and have superior retention of mechanical properties. In comparison, silicone rubber and copolyester suffer from excessive swelling.

Overmold Adhesion

Zeotherm enables a superior bond (cohesive failure) to several types of polyamides commonly used in automotive and industrial applications. It can be processed via thermoplastic insert molding and 2-shot (2K) overmolding.

APPLICATIONS

Automotive Turbo Charger Air Ducts

Clean air intake ducts and cold-side charge air cooler (CAC) ducts benefit from Zeotherm’s flexibility and heat resistance. Zeotherm can withstand sustained exposure to 150°C and peak exposure to 175°C, while remaining flexible at cold temperatures (-40°C). Zeotherm is processable via conventional and suction blow molding either as a mono material or sequentially with polyamide.

Automotive Underhood Fasteners, Clips, and Dampeners

The heat and fluid resistance of Zeotherm make it ideal for underhood components that require “rubber-like” dampening with the ability to be directly bonded to polyamide.

Automotive Boots and Bellows

Zeotherm withstands high heat resistance compared to copolyester (COPE).  Lubricating, urea-based greases do not suffer from “drying out” and losing their lubricity when in contact with Zeotherm.
